Continental TKC 80 Gen 2: The Evolution of a Trail Icon

Published onDecember 29, 2025
Updated onOctober 2, 2026

The TKC 80² is the second generation of Continental's 50/50 adventure tyre, the first in some 40 years. The compound, tread pattern and carcass all change; the carcass is still bias-ply but thicker. It has been on sale since spring 2026 and costs practically the same as the original: about €104 for the 90/90-21 front and €139-144 for the 150/70 B17 rear.

What changes from the original TKC 80

  • New compound: aims for a better balance between grip on different surfaces and wear resistance, and adds Continental's RainGrip technology for the wet.
  • Larger, rearranged blocks: more contact edges and staggered outer blocks for grip on loose ground and self-cleaning in mud and snow. On the front the blocks slope down in the direction of travel; on the rear, the opposite way.
  • Thicker bias-ply carcass: Continental keeps the bias construction for its off-road damping and designed it for 50/50 use, with stability fully loaded and at high speed. More rubber also means more resistance to punctures and cuts.
  • New sidewall mark: the "²" icon tells the new generation apart from the old one.

Sizes, availability and price

Continental presented it on 29 October 2025 and has sold it since spring 2026 in 4 front sizes (19 and 21 inch) and 6 rear sizes (17 and 18 inch).

Continental has not published any mileage figure against the original TKC 80, so we cannot say whether it lasts longer.

Who it is for

For riders of big adventure bikes (R 1300 GS, Multistrada V4, 1290 Super Adventure, Tiger 1200) who genuinely split their miles between tarmac and trails. It is not a pure enduro tyre: in sand and deep mud, an enduro knobby is still better. If it is almost all road, Continental makes the TKC 70, designed for more tarmac use.

Our take

We have not tested it. On paper it is a sensible evolution of the best-known 50/50: same concept and same price, with more rubber and redesigned blocks for ever-heavier adventure bikes. What we still don't know is what matters most when buying it: how long it lasts compared with the original.
