For a light commute when you need to take your belongings with you after parking, a motorcycle backpack can be practical. For a weekend away with more clothing or several hours on the bike, we would assess panniers first: they carry the load on the motorcycle and let you divide it between both sides. Weight, mounting and packing space matter alongside litres.

This comparison covers Givi and LS2 2026 collection products using official documentation and price references checked on 9 October 2026. It is a documentary analysis; we have not road-tested this luggage. Euro prices are Spanish-market references.

Panniers or backpack: match the luggage to the ride

UseAssess firstCheck

A weekend with clothing and shoesPanniersLoad limits, supports and exhaust clearance

A backpack avoids fitting racks, but its contents travel on your body. Panniers need mounting checks and increase width. For a pillion, check the loaded setup: straps under the seat do not automatically leave a comfortable space for two.

Which 2026 models are included?

Givi lists the renewed Easy-T range among its 2026 products. LS2 introduced Move Ahead, Freedom and Shield as its first luggage line for the 2026 catalogue, according to EICMA's official presentation. Some products were announced in 2025 for the following season.

Retail offers and recommended prices are different references. They may exclude racks, accessories or delivery and can change. We do not quote an EASY14 price because the accessible retail page did not allow us to corroborate it.

Givi EASY11: adjustable space for weekends away

The EASY11 holds 18–25 L per side, with waterproof inner bags and Remove-X compatibility. The pair totals 36–50 L. We would consider it for adjustable packing space. Check supports and exhaust clearance; we do not quote an unverified load limit. Motocard showed €119.16, a dated offer rather than a fixed price.

LS2 Move Ahead panniers: prioritising rain protection

The Move Ahead Panniers hold 20 L with a maximum load of 4 kg per side. LS2 declares IPX5 for their welded construction and roll closure. At a recommended €169.99, we would consider them for frequent wet-weather trips. Universal straps still require compatibility and wheel/exhaust clearance checks. Capacity is fixed rather than expandable.

LS2 Freedom: a lower-price alternative

The Freedom Panniers retain 20+20 L and 4 kg per bag, at a recommended €119.99. They use waterproof inner pouches with a declared IPX4 rating. Compare that inner protection with Move Ahead's welded body. We do not attribute the higher range's IPX5 rating to Freedom.

Givi EASY14: separate space for used clothing

The EASY14 combines 24 L, roll closure and a fixed waterproof inner bag. It accommodates a laptop up to 16 inches. Side pockets and the lower shoe/used-clothing pocket are not waterproof. We would consider it for organising work items and a change of clothes; keep water-sensitive belongings inside the protected compartment.

LS2 Move Ahead Backpack: smaller capacity, integrated protection

The Move Ahead Backpack offers 20 L, a 4 kg maximum and a recommended €99.99. LS2 declares IPX5, with welded construction and a watertight main zipper. It includes a 15-inch laptop sleeve, helmet holder and removable waist belt. We would consider it for wet commutes with light luggage. Check the computer's dimensions: screen diagonal does not guarantee that every casing fits.

Before buying

  • Weigh your luggage. Litres describe volume. Bag and motorcycle load limits determine how much you can carry.
  • Calculate the fitted cost. Include the supports, spacers and accessories your motorcycle requires.
  • Check security. Avoid loose strap ends and keep luggage clear of the exhaust and moving parts. Follow the setup's instructions.
  • Try the backpack with riding gear. Check fit and movement. Follow your airbag's instructions before combining it with a backpack.
  • Consider stops. Assess removal time and how you will carry the bags away from the bike.

Spain's DGT recommends balancing pannier loads and placing lighter items on top. Also follow your motorcycle manufacturer's loaded-riding adjustments.

Our choice by use

For commuting, assess the EASY14 for organisation and a larger laptop, or the Move Ahead Backpack if 20 L is enough and declared rain protection matters most. For weekends away, start with EASY11 for adjustable capacity or Move Ahead Panniers for welded construction. Freedom adds a 40 L option at a lower recommended price. Every choice still requires mounting and load checks.

Frequently asked questions

Does a waterproof backpack protect every pocket?

It depends on construction. EASY14 has non-waterproof outer areas. Check which compartment the specification protects and close the system correctly.

Can a 20-litre bag carry 20 kg?

Do not derive weight capacity from volume. The selected LS2 products specify 4 kg per backpack or pannier, depending on the product. Respect the motorcycle's limits too.

Are panniers better for every journey?

It depends on luggage and mounting. A backpack can handle a light commute; panniers may suit a longer ride when you want to carry the load on the motorcycle.
