The Rev'it Defender 4 GTX is the new top adventure travel jacket from Rev'it, launched with the Fall/Winter 2026 collection at €729.99: three layers (shell, PrimaLoft thermal liner and a GORE-TEX liner worn inside or outside), EN 17092 AA and ready for a Tech-Air airbag underneath. It is the four-season jacket for people who travel far in any weather; it costs €250 more than the Sand 5 and the back protector is still extra. Score: 8.5/10.

A new jacket, not a facelift
Unlike the Sand 5, which Rev'it presents as an evolution, the Defender 4 GTX is described by the brand as redesigned from the ground up. The shell is made almost entirely of a bonded rib stretch fabric, with CORDURA® ripstop and an abrasion-resistant screen print on the shoulders and elbows, where it is needed most. According to the FC-Moto listing, the shell is 82% polyamide, 12% polyester and 6% elastane. The stretch is the point: the outer jacket moves with you instead of being a stiff, armoured box. It went on sale in the official store on 1 August 2026.

Three layers: how the system works
The Defender 4 GTX is built around two removable liners that also work as standalone garments:
- PrimaLoft® Silver thermal liner: with stretch panels, it zips into the jacket and doubles as a mid-layer jacket once you're off the bike.
- GORE-TEX® 2-in-1 liner: it uses Rev'it's "over and under" principle. You can wear it under the shell for everyday riding, or over it as a rain jacket when the weather turns. It also works on its own, with the thermal liner underneath.
One thing to understand: the waterproofing comes from the liner, not from the outer shell. With the GORE-TEX liner inside you stay dry, but in long rain the outer layer gets wet and heavy; wearing the liner over the top avoids that. It is the same logic as the Sand 5, with GORE-TEX instead of Hydratex.

Ventilation
Rev'it says this is one of the areas where the jacket takes the biggest step up. It has two large drop-down chest panels, an XL panel across the back and vent zips on the sleeves. It also uses the CFZ VCS|Aquadefence system: a vent panel under the central zip that lets air in when it's hot, with a rubber seal that keeps water out when it's closed. The collar has a two-way snap that closes it in bad weather or pins it open for airflow.
Protection and certification
It comes with SEEFLEX CE level 2 protectors on the shoulders and elbows. The SEESOFT CE level 2 back protector (type RV) and the divided SEESOFT CE level 1 chest protector are optional, and not included. The jacket is certified class AA under EN 17092-3:2020, the usual level for adventure and touring textile jackets. It is also ready for a Tech-Air airbag: the Rev'it Avertum Tech-Air® can be worn underneath, or an Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 if you go one size up. It is prepared for Rev'it's Segur neck brace as well. This is not a physical test by our team: the analysis is based on the specifications and certification published by Rev'it!

Price
The Defender 4 GTX has an official RRP of €729.99 in Spain, liners included, the same in all three colours (in the US it sells for $979.99). In Rev'it's own range it sits above the Sand 5 H2O (€479.99) and below the Poseidon 3 GTX (€869.99) and the Dominator 3 GTX (€1,399.99). As a recent launch, discounts are still rare and some sizes are out of stock. With the matching pants, the kit comes to about €1,370, before adding the back protector.
Pros and cons
Pros
- A real four-season system: a PrimaLoft liner, a GORE-TEX liner you choose how to wear, and plenty of ventilation for heat.
- Airbag ready: compatible with the Avertum Tech-Air and with the Tech-Air 5 one size up.
- New, more flexible chassis: a stretch shell with CORDURA where it matters, and lots of fit adjustment.
Cons
- Price: €729.99, €250 more than the Sand 5, and close to €1,400 with the pants.
- Back and chest protectors not included: at this price, they still have to be bought separately.
- Waterproofing depends on the liner: the shell itself is not waterproof, so in long rain with the liner inside, the outer layer soaks up water.
- No official weight or independent tests yet: it has only been on sale since August 2026.
Verdict
The Defender 4 GTX is Rev'it's most complete adventure travel jacket: GORE-TEX, a PrimaLoft liner, AA certification and Tech-Air compatibility in a new, more flexible jacket. If you mostly travel in mild weather, the Sand 5 does a similar job for €250 less. If you ride all year in rain and cold, or want to wear an airbag underneath, the Defender 4 GTX justifies the difference.
