The AGV K1 S is the entry point to AGV's range: ECE 22.06 homologation, around 1,450 g and €199.95 in solid colours. It is a very smart buy if you ride in the city; if you do a lot of motorway kilometres, it is worth looking one step up. Score: 8/10.
HIR-TH polycarbonate: the smart bet
The shell is HIR-TH (High Resistance Thermoplastic), AGV's name for its high-resistance polycarbonate. It is not carbon, and it does not pretend to be: at this price the sensible bet is a shell that absorbs energy well and keeps the price under control. The result is a helmet of around 1,450 g in a medium size (Champion Helmets measures 1,442 g), a normal figure for its segment and not excessive for daily city use.
Ventilation and visor that surprise
Here the K1 S plays in a league above its price. The ventilation is real: adjustable chin and upper intakes plus rear extractors that move air even in urban traffic. The visor is an Ultravision with anti-scratch treatment and Pinlock-ready — the anti-fog lens is sold separately, but the helmet is prepared to take it, which in the entry segment is not always guaranteed.
A removable interior and a sensible price
The interior uses DryComfort fabric, fully removable and washable, with a fit that holds well without squeezing. The double-D ring closure is a safe, track-proven system, though it takes a bit more practice to fasten with winter gloves. It is also prepared to fit an intercom without forcing the padding. Price: €199.95 in solid colours; graphic versions go up to around €280.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Homologation: ECE 22.06 at an entry-level price, without cutting corners on safety.
- Visor: Ultravision with anti-scratch and Pinlock-ready, unusual in this segment.
- Ventilation: it really moves air, not just a decorative grille.
Cons
- Pinlock not included: for winter commuting you will want to buy the anti-fog lens separately.
- Weight: around 1,450 g, a normal figure but far from a carbon helmet.
Verdict
The AGV K1 S is the proof that "entry level" does not have to mean "cutting corners on safety". If you ride in the city, it is a very smart buy; if you do a lot of motorway kilometres, it is worth looking one step up in the range.
