The GP Pro R3 is Alpinestars' mid-range racing glove, one step below the GP Tech, and costs around €250-290. It is the glove to buy if you ride on the track or do sport riding and want maximum hand protection without paying for a GP Tech; for the city it is expensive. Score: 9/10.
Materials: cow, goat and kangaroo where it matters
The construction combines cow, goat and kangaroo leather, with the palm in kangaroo — the material that offers the best ratio between thinness, feel and abrasion resistance. That is what gives it that precise feedback on the throttle and brake, the sensation that a glove is truly a racing glove and not a padded mitten.
Protection: rigid knuckles and hard palm slider
The knuckles carry a rigid protector that absorbs direct impacts, the fingers use TPU protection with padding, and the palm mounts a hard slider plus thumb and palm reinforcement with a bridge between the fingers. The glove is certified to CE Category II, Level 2 (EN 13594), the highest level for motorcycle gloves.
Closure and comfort
It closes with a double closure and a long gauntlet-style cuff with DFS (Dynamic Friction Shield), which keeps the glove in place in a fall and prevents it from coming off. The knuckle panel is perforated for ventilation, enough to keep your hands cool in summer without giving up protection.
For track or road?
It is a track glove by design: rigid protections, gauntlet cuff and racing fit. On the road it works, but if you only ride in the city there are lighter and cheaper options. Its natural habitat is the circuit and sport riding, where the price of around €250-290 is very contained for a Level 2 glove.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Protection: CE Level 2 (EN 13594), the maximum for gloves.
- Feel: kangaroo palm with excellent lever feedback.
- Security: gauntlet cuff with DFS that stays put in a fall.
Cons
- Use: it is a racing glove, not ideal for winter or urban commuting.
- Price: €250-290 is high if you only ride in the city.
Verdict
The GP Pro R3 is the glove to buy if you ride on the track or do sport riding and want maximum hand protection without paying for a GP Tech. It is not for urban commuting, but in its terrain it is hard to beat for the price.
