The Dainese Misano 3 D-air is the one-piece suit worn by Dainese's own riders on track, with a built-in D-air airbag and EN 17092 AAA homologation, from €2,499. It is an investment for riders who track regularly, not a one-off purchase: the price and the upkeep of the D-air system weigh in. Score: 9/10.

D-Skin 2.0 leather and construction

The suit is made from D-Skin 2.0 full-grain cowhide leather, perforated on both sides for better thermal comfort, with larger ventilation areas at key points (chest, legs and the back of the knees). Dainese has reduced the number of seams compared with previous generations to gain mobility and cut weight.

D-air Racing Shield 3X airbag

The D-air Racing Shield 3X system protects the neck, collarbone and shoulders with a patented microfilament air barrier around 5 cm thick. A 6-axis sensor network (accelerometers, gyroscopes and GPS) analyses riding data 1,000 times per second to detect a crash and inflate the airbag before impact. This third generation supports up to 3 activations before it needs factory servicing, and the D-air Fast Replacement System (FRS) lets you swap the gas generator independently after each deployment.

Protection and sliders

It fits seamless "Seamless Racing" aluminium plates on the shoulders and elbows, combined with EN 1621-1 level 1 soft protectors at the shoulder. On the elbows and knees, the RSS 4.0 sliders are interchangeable after track use. The cuffs use self-locking zippers instead of velcro, and the Soft Edges Construction at the nape and cuffs adapts to different arm shapes.

Fit and ergonomics

The V-shaped Veloce Racing Neck construction eases neck movement with a helmet on, and the pentaxial elasticity system on the back stretches in five directions to follow a track riding position without compromising protection. Available in sizes 44 to 64. Dainese notes a "second skin" fit, snugger than its street gear.

EN 17092 AAA homologation

The suit is certified EN 17092 AAA, the most demanding level of the European standard for motorcycle garments, aimed at track and racing use. This is not a physical test by our team: this analysis is based on the specifications and certifications published by Dainese.

Price: €2,499

On dainese.com Spain, the perforated Misano 3 D-air in black/red/fluo-red carries an official RRP of €2,499. That is the entry price into the brand's airbag-integrated suit range, before accounting for the rest of the track kit (helmet, boots, gloves).

Pros and cons

Pros

  • D-air Racing Shield 3X: up to 3 activations, a 6-axis sensor network and an independently replaceable gas generator.
  • EN 17092 AAA homologation: the maximum certified protection level for track use.
  • Perforated D-Skin 2.0 leather: expanded ventilation without giving up abrasion resistance.

Cons

  • Price: €2,499 official RRP, within reach only for riders who track regularly.
  • Airbag maintenance: factory servicing is required after 3 activations, and each deployment means replacing the gas generator.

Verdict

The Misano 3 D-air is what Dainese's own riders wear, and it shows in the level of detail: a third-generation airbag, interchangeable protection and homologation at the highest possible level. The price and the D-air system's upkeep make it an investment for riders who track regularly, not a one-off purchase.
