The Shark OXO is Shark's flip-back modular and the successor to the Evo-One 2: the chin bar rotates 180°, it has dual P/J homologation and a sun visor, and it costs around €300-400. It is the current pick in the Shark range for city and touring: quieter and lighter for a modular than the Evo-One 2. Score: 8/10.

A flip-back that changes the concept

Instead of the classic modular that lifts the chin bar to the forehead, the OXO uses '2 DIGIT UNLOCK' to release the chin bar and rotate it all the way over the shell. It takes a ride or two to get used to, but once you have it, it is reliable and can be done one-handed. The result is a helmet that works as a full-face and as a jet with no compromises in between.

Polycarbonate shell and 1,682 g

The shell is injected polycarbonate (Lexan) in two shell sizes, with a weight around 1,682 g (size M). That is light for a modular — most direct rivals are heavier. The homologation is ECE 22.06 with P/J, so it is legal to ride with the chin bar open or closed.

Visor and comfort

The visor is anti-scratch with a panoramic field of view, and comes with a Pinlock 70 in the box plus an internal UV380 sun visor adjustable from the side. The interior is removable, washable and antibacterial, with suede-finish cheek pads and a chin curtain. It is prepared for speaker pockets and compatible with the Sena for Shark system.

Noise, ventilation and price

This is where the OXO stands out: press tests measure it at around 100 dB at speed, an average figure that the press singles out as among the lowest for modulars around €400. Ventilation is more modest — two intakes and two rear extractors — and cools without excelling. The price runs from about €300 to €400.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Noise: around 100 dB, average; among the quietest modulars in this price band.
  • Flip-back 180°: full-face and jet in one helmet, one-handed.
  • Complete kit: Pinlock 70, internal sun visor and P/J homologation.

Cons

  • Ventilation: correct but not outstanding for hot days.
  • Polycarbonate shell: two sizes and no carbon option.

Verdict

The Shark OXO is a well-executed evolution of the Evo-One 2: quieter, lighter for a modular and with a flip-back mechanism that genuinely works. If you want a modular for city and touring, it is the current pick in the Shark range.
