The Shark Race-R Pro GP is Shark's track helmet, with a COVA carbon and aramid shell: €999.99 RRP, and Shark sells it from €499.99 in its own store. It is a pure track tool at a reasonable price before reaching the FIM range; for road use, there are more comfortable and quieter Shark helmets. Score: 8.5/10.

COVA shell: carbon and aramid

The shell is built in COVA, a carbon and aramid composite — not 100% carbon, but a mix that balances lightness and impact absorption. It uses multi-density EPS and two shell sizes, and drops the weight to around 1,385 g. That is a very competitive figure for a racing helmet at this level.

Aerodynamics with a safety spoiler

The rear spoiler is pure MotoGP, and it carries Shark's Quick Spoiler Safety System: in a fall it detaches rather than snagging on the tarmac. Ventilation is generous — five intakes and seven extractors — designed to keep the head cool at track pace, not to be quiet on the motorway.

Visor: prepared for tear-offs

The visor is optical class 1, anti-scratch and anti-fog, and is prepared for tear-offs rather than a Pinlock. A smoked spare visor is included in the box. The closure is double-D with a magnetic fastener, the standard for track use. The helmet is prepared for the Sharktooth Prime intercom.

Homologation and price

The current generation is the Race-R Pro GP 06, named after the ECE 22.06 homologation it carries. Its official RRP is €999.99 for every version, still below the FIM-certified Aeron GP. In October 2026 Shark's own store sells it discounted at between €499.99 and €799.99 depending on the finish.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • COVA shell: carbon and aramid at 1,385 g, light for racing.
  • Track ventilation: five intakes and seven extractors.
  • Safety spoiler: detaches in a fall instead of snagging.

Cons

  • No Pinlock: tear-offs only, and the visor can be stiff with gloves.
  • Acoustic insulation: weak, as expected in a racing helmet.

Verdict

The Shark Race-R Pro GP is a pure track tool at a reasonable price for what it is. If you ride circuits or track days, the COVA shell, the ventilation and the safety spoiler make it a serious option before reaching the FIM range. For road use, there are more comfortable and quieter helmets in the Shark range.
